I’m so seated for this.
As a New Yorker, I must remind you that I’m a New Yorker at every available opportunity, so AS A NEW YORKER, any horror movie set in my backyard is terrifying. I am so excited to see what they’re going to do with this premise in a big city!
When A Quiet Place came out, I was shocked, not only by a husband/wife team making a quality feature together, but also by Jim from The Office turning out a top ten horror flick that he directed and co-wrote! The sequel, with the story, screenplay, and direction all by Jim from the Office, lived up to the hype, so I”m excited about the third installment from Jim set to be released in 2025.
This prequel, however, is an expansion of that universe starting from Day One with a new set of characters and screenplay/direction by Michael Sarnoski. I think it’s great to let a different director come in to place his vision atop an established premise to separate it from the original, and I also think it’s time to induct Lupita Nyong’o into the Scream Queens Club as the go-to girl for prestige horror.
We all saw her in Jordan Peele’s Us:

But y’all might missed Little Monsters, which was delightfully deranged in a way that only Lupita could have carried:

We need more Black women in these flicks and if Lupita wants to carry the charge, I’m here for it.
A Quiet Place: Day One opens June 28th.
