My favorite playlists

The people said Spotify is hard to search and they couldn’t find my playlists, so I made a little site adjustment:

Ta da! No excuses! I think you can search Spotify by rafidangelo or overpricedvodka, but here’s a link either way: https://open.spotify.com/user/rafidangelo

While we’re here though, these are some of my favorites I’ve posted over the years to get you right for the weekend.

Cookout Music is just a random mix of Black Auntie Music with a swirl of Grandma’s Oldies, some more recent Sunday Afternoon R&B Jams, a smattering of New Jack Swing, and a dash of Classic Hip-Hop.

Elegant Upper East Side White Woman is for a woman named Caroline who lives just off Park Avenue. She has chardonnay in a coffee tumbler decorated with Swarovski crystals while she walks her tiny dog, Janice, into all of the shops during her errands. This is a playlist for your most Caucasian Dinner Parties, a little 80s soft rock, a little adult contemporary, a little relaxing evening.

Late Night Creep is for just that….late night creeping around. You can smoke weed or make babies — your choice.

As an Elder Millennial, I am correct in my opinion that the 90s were the absolute best decade for R&B and nobody proves that better than the girl groups. 90s R&B Girl Groups is a chronological overview from En Vogue’s “Hold On” in February 1990 to En Vogue’s “Riddle” in March 2000 covering everyone from the obscure (Trina & Tamara) to the superstars (TLC, Destiny’s Child).

You’re in Bushwick and you stumble upon a vegan coffeeshop with a lesbian barista behind the counter. What is she playing?

or

You’re in Santa Fe and you stumble upon a little art gallery run by an Andie McDowell lookalike in an oversized white oxfort shirt and chunky turquoise jewelry. What is she playing?

Now…That’s What I Call Pensive White Women Vol. 1

Retro Vibes sounds like disco, but all the songs are from 1995 onward. This is my favorite playlist at the beach.

Hard, Loud & Fast is a playlist that makes me get shit done! I just put it on shuffle and let them yell at me for a couple of hours. Apartment is spotless afterward.

If your cleaning vibe is less “white man & guitars” and more “soft bounce & soul harmonies” with a glass of red wine and a magazine break, then Sunday Afternoon R&B might be for you.

I was making a VH1 playlist and posted it on Twitter years ago. One of the replies I got said, “”She knows that the kids are going to make her listen to Sesame Street all the way home, and she has to get her Meredith Brooks on SOMEHOW.”

Samantha is in the carpool lane at Bridgeport Elementary. It’s February in 1997 and she’s waiting for her 5-year-old to get out of school. In the car, it’s big Lilith Fair vibes.

Me in 20 Songs is a short overview of what I like. When I write a little music review, this is where I’m coming from.

Alright now, y’all have a nice — musical — weekend. I gotta go back to work.
