Since the 2016 presidential campaign, Donald Trump’s aides and advisers have tried to convince him of the importance of tackling the national debt.
Sources close to the president say he has repeatedly shrugged it off, implying that he doesn’t have to worry about the money owed to America’s creditors—currently about $21 trillion—because he won’t be around to shoulder the blame when it becomes even more untenable.

We point out a lot of ways this current administration is breaking from accepted norms, but the one difference that gets the least discussion is the frequency with which Trump and this current GOP says out loud what we all knew to be true anyway.
Cheetolini doesn’t care about the debt because he won’t be around to deal with it when it reaches the crisis point and that’s true of every Republican President in respect to the economy. They wreck it, and then Democrats put it back together. Clinton had to put it back together after Bush Senior and Obama had to put it back together after Dubbya and the next Democrat will have to put it back together after President BabyTantrum ToddlerHands. Trump saying he doesn’t care about the debt because it’ll be someone else’s problem is in line with his personal character and the actual history of the GOP since Reagan so none of this is shocking — it’s just surprising to see it reported out loud. 🤷♂️
