It’s the most wonderful time of the year again! If y’all are like me, you start throwing on the Christmas music the day before Thanksgiving because the turkey always comes out better if you make it while Whitney Houston is bringing joy to the world and Kelly Clarkson is begging for jewelry under a tree.
Actually, if you’re really like me, you pull out the holiday jams the day after Halloween.
Well. ACTUALLY actually, you have some Christmas bops that make it onto year-round playlists like the Braxton Family version of “This Christmas” which will (unfortunately) continue to stand tall as the best representation of all five Braxtons on one song since Traci passed away a few years ago.
But I digress.
I haven’t done my New Christmas Music due diligence this year, but I have them queued up so I can add some new bops to the playlists while I’m stuck down here in the country side at the family compound. Meanwhile, go ahead and add these to your Spotify libraries so you can get into the Spirit of Jesus (hallelujah!) and The Bigger Spirit of Commercialism (ishouldaboughtahonda!).
A Diva’s Christmas
A wise woman (Whitney Houston) once said she only listens to singers who sing. Well, I am not a wise woman, nor am I Whitney Houston, so I actually listen to plenty of singers who cannot sing, but the spirit of Whitney Houston is in this playlist featuring everyone from Barbra Streisand to Ledisi to Ella Fitzgerald to, of course, Whitney herself.
Fireplace Christmas
Vibes: wrapping presents, baking cookies, drinking eggnog (or some other alcoholic beverage that isn’t disgusting thick French toast batter), or making a holiday baby for that dreaded August/September hot summer delivery….
Ultimate Christmas Party
The worst moment at any festive Christmas Party is when everybody is vibing along to the music and then suddenly….some maudlin version of “Silent Night” comes on to wreck the groove. Well, you won’t have that problem here. You can put this playlist on shuffle if you like all kinds of music, but it’s ordered by genre:
- Gospel
- R&B
- Pop
- Pop-Rock
- Rock
- Country
Ultimate Christmas Party (Deluxe)
Same playlist as above, but every other song is a Christmas song. The others are just demonic secular music, for balance.
This weekend I’ll be laid up in in the house avoiding everyone, so I’ll be adding some stuff to these. Y’all have a nice Thanksgiving, and remember! If your family can’t cook, do not post Your Plate online. You keep that to yourself because your mother and Aunt Julie did not ask to be dragged by the entire internet.
